PROSECCO IS CRAFTED FROM THE GLERA GRAPE, THE MOST GENUINE EXPRESSION OF OUR VITICULTURE.

At the heart of every Prosecco DOC, Asolo DOCG and Conegliano-Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG there can only be the Glera grape: it’s perfectly suited for crafting sparkling wine, defined by a millennia-long tradition, and protected by legislation that sets out how Prosecco can be made. Its use dates back to Roman times, when this grape was used to produce Pucino wine – Prosecco’s ancestor – a wine considered a true elixir of eternal youth.

Diverse environments, unique sensations.

The Glera grape has different notes depending on the climatic conditions and types of soil where the vine is grown. When grown on the hillsides around Valdobbiadene, floral and fruity notes predominate. In the lower-altitude hills in the area south of Vittorio Veneto, hints of citrus and green apple come to the fore. Finally, on the plains, which feature stony, loose soils, the fresh floral and fruity notes once again stand out.

All the personalities of Prosecco.

The Glera grape is naturally suited to sparkling winemaking. By balancing the elements that deliver softness and freshness, it allows for various types of Prosecco to be obtained. Our range includes all the principal types, from the driest taste of Brut to Extra Dry and Dry – the sweetest version. Sugar level changes, but pleasantness and drinkability remain a constant.

The essence of Glera.

Glera is a type of white grape. The vines have a dark nutty hue and produce straw-coloured clusters. It’s a grape variety with specific characteristics that make it unique in the global winemaking industry:

  • medium to large, wedge-shaped, pentagonal, five-lobed and three-lobed leaves;
  • sparse, medium and pyramidal clusters;
  • spherical berries, with pruinose, greenish-yellow skin.
